Kazbegi - Tusheti Mountains

Explore the mountains of Georgia for a full day and relax between locations while a professional driver takes you around. We will visit two natural paradises: Zhinvali Reservoir and Gudauri, plus the historical sites of the Ananuri Castle Ensemble and Gergeti Trinity Church. Discover many sides of Georgia in one day, from its nature to its history.

Kazbegi Mountine

The buildings included in the complex are: upper and lower fortress, fence, towers, Church of the Mother of God, Church of the Deity, “Mkurnali” Church, bell tower, octagonal cell and reservoirs. The earliest building of the ensemble is the Khevsurian tower, which is located in the center of the upper fortress. It dates back to the XIV century. Zeda Tsikhe (upper fortress) (citadel) was built in the XVI-XVII centuries, and Kveda Tsikhe (lower fortress) - later, in the XVIII century.

Ananuri Fortress Complex

Georgia-Russia Friendship monument is a circular balcony hanging off of a 600 meter cliff with amazing views of Caucasus Mountains. This panorama is decorated with Soviet Style mosaics depicting Georgian and Russian heroes, farmers, fairy tales and communist symbols. The monument is very vivid and colorful, however most of it’s beauty is thanks to the location.

Gudauri Panorama

Was built in the 14th century by an unknown architect, and is the only cross-cupola church in Khevi province. The iconic view of the church and Mount Kazbek is one of the best examples of harmonic combination of architecture and the landscape, so typical for the architecture of Georgia. The church ensemble includes the church itself, the belltower and the surrounding wall.

Gergeti Trinity Church

Omalo is the central village of the region, and the first you see coming to Tusheti. Several Tushetian families even stay there for the winter while other locals go down to the valleys. The most important and impressive historical object here is the complex of watch towers called Keselo epically set on a high cliff. There is a small ethnographic museum inside one of the towers.

A hike from Omalo to Dartlo will take about 3-4 hours. Houses and towers of Dartlo were recently restored and now included on the list of protected cultural heritage of the country. Dartlo is only inhabited in the summer. But until last year one local person spent the long Tushetian winter in the village.
Dartlo is also a starting point to a spectacular five-day trekking path to Khevsureti. The trek begins with Dartlo to Andaki pass, covering difficult 14 kilometers, and continues with hike or horseback ride along the uninhabited mountains towards Shatili village.

This small picturesque village is located at the same altitude as Omalo but separated by a big mountain gorge from Omalo.
The only Orthodox church in the region (Sameba church, XIX c.) is located in Shenako. Its frescoes have been restored at the beginning of our century. Just next to the church you can see one of above mentioned sacred places, “nishi”. Here, again, one can witness how paganism and Christianity are intertwined in this wonderful place.
