Borjomi - Vardzia - Rabati

We will visit the beautiful city of Borjomi, which is built in the heart of the mountains, right in the forest, and is an amazing synthesis of architecture and nature. We will have a chance to enjoy the amazing local views and taste the Borjomi mineral water that flows directly from the heart of the city. We will spend one night in Borjomi.

Our last stop is at Borjomi, a hydro-thermal health spa resort in the southern region of Samtskhe-Javakheti. It has an international reputation for its geothermal spring mineral water resources. We walk in Borjomi Central Park and taste mineral water Borjomi which has unique healing qualities. It won its first gold medal in 1907 in Belgium. The water has been bottled since 1896. Finally, we can visit some attractions and enjoy incredible nature in Borjomi Central Park.

Running since 1962, the cable car connects the popular tourist attraction of Borjomi Park with one of the highest points in the mountains surrounding it. The cable car provides you with a stunning view of the whole city, the park, Borjomi Valley, the Borjomula River, and the distant meadows. You’ll want to have your camera ready!

The Borjomi Cable Car can transport up to 25 people at one time, covering a distance of 376 meters.

In the south of the country, not far from the famous cave town of Vardzia, at the confluence of the Paravani and Mtkvari rivers, there is a popular attraction, the fortress of Khertvisi. The ancient fortress perfectly matches nature: Surrounded by mighty mountains, the muscular walls look even more powerful. The date of the construction of the defense in different sources is indicated in different ways. The first mention of it was back in the time of the Great Silk Road. The castle is located on the top of the mountain and, at one time, was difficult to access. That's why Khertvisi is kept in good condition.

During the reign of Tamar the importance of Vardzia considerably increased and achieved a great prosperity, amazing the contemporaries. Historians tell us about the Queen's rich contributions to the monastery and the luxury of its caves. The chief seminary of southwestern Georgia was housing 2 000 monks until an earthquake ruined it in 1283. Another earthquake in 1456 was followed by a Persian army in 1551, so that now Vardzia cave complex consists of approximately 600 rooms survived of a total 3 000, cut in the rock and located in five, six, seven and sometimes twelve tiers, which included stables, barracks, bakeries, wine presses and stores.
